Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide students the bridge between the nurturing environment of elementary school and the independent environment of junior high school by providing opportunities that encourage students to reach their fullest potential.

Beliefs

We Believe...

  • Each student's core curriculum needs should be met by caring, highly qualified teachers and staff in a team setting.
  • The total education experience will promote academic, social emotional and physical growth.
  • Students should be provided the opportunity to learn in a safe, organized, well maintained environment.
  • Students should be provided tools to become life long learners and successful members of our society.
  • Students are the shared responsibility of themselves, their parents, their community, and their school.
  • All students deserve to be respected as individual learners and have the ability to learn when presented with developmentally appropriate opportunities.

  About The School

Duran South

T.E.A.M. - Together Everyone Accomplishes More

Duran South is very unique in that we have only seventh grade students. Students at Duran South are grouped in three TEAMs each consisting of four or five teachers.  This TEAM concept allows teachers to do cross-curricular projects and to keep track of student's progress.  We work on a seven period schedule and have many electives to enhance each student's growth into becoming a young adult.

We have an excellent tutoring program for students that is held three days a week, one hour before school and an hour after school.  The teacher to student ratio in this free program is 1 teacher for every 5 students.

Duran South has two computer labs that serve our school. The main computer lab consists of 28 computers that are equipped with Internet access, several tutoring programs, and all microsoft word applications.  The second lab consists of Alpha-Smarts, which are small laptops that can be used for word processing and keyboarding skills.

Duran South is fortunate to have a live television studio that is staffed and completely run by the students.  From Duran South Live the school is informed about upcoming events, weather and character education.

In addtion to a rigorus academic program we also offer a variety of clubs and organizations for students to join.
